Developing a New Breed
Humans have been selectively breeding horses for 4,200 years but in the last hundred years as our need for horses has veered away from war, travel and sport, a new demographic has been born. Pleasure horses and horses used for recreation are in demand and consist of nearly 50% of the horse population in the United States.

We owe it to ourselves, and to horses as a species to develop a breed of horse that is designed to be a safe, sturdy and healthy companion for humans- the ultimate family horse. By 2035 generations of NAPHA horses will have been born and pleasure horse owners will be happier and safer because of it.

Calm Demeanor
Temperament is of utmost importance to NAPHA. We are developing a gentle breed that is a safe family horse.
Sure Footed
Trail riding and hunter pacing are two of the most common horsebackriding past times. We are devoloping a surefooted breed that is designed to be found on the trail, on the beach, or anywhere else you enjoy your horse.
Good Bone
NAPHA horses are not designed for high speed, however, good bone makes them able to withstand stress and maintain soundness well into their twenties.
Soundness
Stemming from good bone and healthy hooves, NAPHA horses are bred to be sound and barefoot over a variety of terrains.
Low Maintenance
Many horse owners that enjoy horses do not get to do so full time so NAPHA promotes a breed that needs low maintenance care. Minimal hair and feathering to tend to and horses that are cold hardy, minimally heat sensitive and have minimal allergies.
Free of Genetic Disease
All NAPHA breeding stock is genetically tested and seven panel clear. It is responsible to the horse to develop a healthy breed and genetic testing is the first step.
